It’s like family. That’s the feeling you get when meeting the team at Scott’s Heating & Air Conditioning, a five-year-old company that is enjoying explosive growth in Longwood. The fast path to success is no accident, however. After 19 years in the industry, owner Scott Moist knew he had discovered the “secret” to operating an air conditioning and heating company in Central Florida.
“The secret is taking care of the customer,” says Scott, admitting that it shouldn’t be a secret at all. “And we do that as a team. Our success is being built on the hard work of the employees who understand that we take care of our customers.”
Since setting up shop, Scott’s Heating & Air Conditioning is making a name for itself. It was named 2014 New Business of the Year by the Seminole County Regional Chamber of Commerce, and this year was named the Bryant dealer with the highest overall growth in the nation for mid-sized dealers. Scott credits his technicians, who are all NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certified, which means they’ve completed stringent testing in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
Originally from Maryland, Scott became interested in the air-conditioning business when he joined the Navy. After serving, Scott dove right into the HVAC industry, ultimately launching his own company out of his house in 2011. Two years later, he was joined by his wife Kristy and two employees, Clif Parkinson and George Bryant. Just a year later, the company moved to its present location on Longwood-Lake Mary Road, having proudly expanded to the current team of 16 employees.
“We wouldn’t be where we’re at without George and Clif,” says Scott. “And Kristy is the one who holds it all together.”
George, who resides in Deltona, has 21 years of experience in the HVAC business and serves as Scott’s lead installer. An eastern Pennsylvania native, his skills are considered second to none.
“I treat every home like it was my own,” George says. “We understand the mission that, in the end, the customer is happy. That’s why most of our business is word-of-mouth.”
Clif, who leads the service department, was born and raised in Seminole County. A resident of Lake Mary, the senior service technician has 23 years of experience, more than anyone at the company.
“I enjoy fixing things,” Clif admits, “and I like to make customers happy. Customer service is above everything else. You want to create customers for life. That’s the recipe for success.”
